At The River's Edge
Individual or Church?
Sara, I differ with you on the sermons that remind me of what I should be or should not be doing. To me, they inspire me to be more mindful of my unrighteousness. To hear or read a sermon sometimes I have the audacity to think it was said or written just for me, it affects my conscience.
-
The reminders of a sermon or studying the Holy Bible are what I need daily, mindful they are sometimes "hard to swallow" subjects but they are needful to me.
-
If reading Amos, does it make a difference how we react to him as an individual or as the whole body of the church?
I QUIT
I have tried 4 times to get this printed and if I don't succed this time, i QUIT! This is a continuation of the rest of my previous email that was not printed--
The vulnerable elements of society
- the fatherless, the widows and the orphans — were unprotected and manipulated. On the surface all seemed well, but to the eyes of the prophet, the rotten core of society was evident.
- Every generation must revise this to be sure this rotten care of society isn't evident.
- I read another sermon of Anna Carter Florence and the title is "Do You Really Understand What You Are Reading?"
It in my estimation is an excellent sermon along the same lines as "At the River's Edge."
What Do You Think?
I hope you enjoyed reading this sermon. It is a very good example of fine preaching.
What, if anything, earns this sermon the title "prophetic"? What is Florence trying to say about Amercian society and the church today? What is she calling the church to?
What do you think?
