Today part of our pilgrimage takes us to the Mount of Olives. According to the Gospel of Luke Jesus spent much of his last week on the Mount of Olives after teaching all day in the city. The most significant evening of that week was Thursday, following the Last Supper, as Jesus led the disciples to the Mount of Olives to pray.
Read Luke 22:29-46
The Mount of Olives represents the best and worst for Christians. It is a symbol of Christ’s faithfulness as he accepts the mantel of sacrifice and tunes his own will in harmony with the will of God the Father. But it represents our weakness and desire for comfort as well. So often in the midst of routine and life’s demands we miss the opportunities faith presents. We fall asleep on the job and move through our day on autopilot, neglecting our faith in so many ways.
As you pray today, pray for strength to be mindful of Christ in your life. Pray for the wake-up call that reminds us of who and whose we are at all times and in all situations. Stay awake in faith.
