Today we move toward Jerusalem, leaving the quiet country for the chaos of the city. On the way we will stop to explore Megiddo, a well known archeological site. Megiddo is an important city in the Old Testament and the site of many battles as the Israelites took and then tired to hold the Promised Land. But Megiddo is best known in a passage from Revelation.
Read Revelation 16:12-16
Today, as we stand at the site of major battles and the legendary site of the final battle, we are reminded of all our battles. Today is Monday, an appropriate time to think of battles, perhaps. Maybe getting out of bed seemed like a battle. But maybe your battles are bigger: grief, depression, addiction, despair, jealousy, frustration, pain, uncertainty, fear. As you battle your way through to faithfulness and wholeness this day, remember that you are not alone. God is at your side. We are told in the creeds that Christ is at the right hand of God interceding for us. God is our shield, our protection against the things that threaten to crush us. Keep moving! Keep breathing! And with every breath pray – “I am yours, Lord, hold me up.”
