Christian Education Spring 2008 Schedule

The Christian Education Spring 2008 classes are now in full swing! Sunday School begins at 11:00am, after worship and fellowship. The schedule includes information on courses for students of all ages. More detailed information on classes, presented by age group, is provided below. Come join in a deeper examination of our faith!

Children's Education

The Children’s Program operates on the “Rotation Model.” One topic is taught several times using various methods that engage multiple learning styles. The topics for this spring are as follows:

  • January: Jesus Calls the Disciples
  • February: Feeding 5,000
  • March: Palm Sunday
  • April: Lord's Prayer
  • May: Pentecost
  • June (last class on the 8th): Review

Anyone wishing to help in the children’s program should see Paige Loveall.

Youth Group/Education

The Youth Program is divided into three classes on Sunday mornings (6th/7th Grades, 8th Grade, and 9th-12th Grades). On Wednesday evenings, all youth meet together for supper and then divide into Middle School and High School groups.

On Sunday mornings, the 6th and 7th graders will focus on A Study of God’s Faithfulness. These students will learn how God has called individuals, made promises to them and established covenants with them, and how He continues to be faithful to His Word and to His people in 2008.

The topic for the 8th grade students on Sunday morning is Professing Our Faith. These students will learn what we believe as Christians in the Reformed Tradition and why we believe these things.

The High School Sunday School class will be looking at Incarnations until Easter. After studying what it means that God dwelt fully in Jesus and that He wants to live in us, the class will explore the topic of Reconciliation -- in Christ, we were reconciled to God and now we are called to be reconcilers. What does that mean for us each day?

Adult Education

Courses for adults will be offered in two “tracks:” (1) Bible Emphasis and (2) Reformed Faith Emphasis.

For those who want to study Scripture we will be finishing up the course on interpreting the Bible and then study two sections of God's Word.

  • January 6th and 13th: We will finish the class on understanding the Bible using Interpretation: A Guide to Understanding the Bible. Even if you haven’t attended the class in the Fall, you are welcomed to join us.
  • January 27th-March 16th: Using Passion, Promise, & Praise, we will examine the Psalms to see how we can grow and express our faith no matter what the circumstances
  • March 30th-June 8th: We will study God’s dealings with Israel under Samuel, Saul, and David and see what we can learn about He deals with us today (1 and 2 Samuel).

If you are more interested in learning how your faith should be lived out in during the week, we have several offerings:

  • January 6 & 13: We will finish the class ThisWe Believe: Eight Truths Presbyterians Affirm. Join us even if you missed the first six truths.

  • January 27-March 16: Many believers have preceded us in faith and have helped to prepare the way for us. This class will look at ACloud of Witnesses, the story of some of these saints, using videos and DVDs to learn about their lives and their contributions.

  • March 30 & April 6: How does music help us worship? Are some kinds of music “ok” and others not? For two weeks we will think and talk about Church Music.

  • April 6-April 27: Liturgy and Symbols can help us worship, but often we don’t understand either the liturgy or the symbols well enough to be helped. This class will look at these aids so that we can deepen our worship.

  • May 4-June 8: For six weeks we will look at Science and Christian Faith . The popular media are filled with stories about the “conflict” between religion and science. We will try to understand ways of avoiding conflict and of helping our children and fellow believers reconcile what science says with what our faith proclaims.

Bring Fellowship Hour “goodies” and continue fellowshipping while you learn.
