First Presbyterian Church is part of the Presbyterian Church (USA) a Protestant denomination that traces its roots back to the Reformation of the 16th century.
The name Presbyterian comes from the Greek word "presbuteros" which means "elder" to reflect the fact that we use elected officers, called elders, to govern the church.
Like the government of the United States, the Presbyterian Church has several levels. We are part of the Presbytery of Milwaukee and the Synod of Lakes and Prairies. First Presbyterian Church was formed in 1925 in Kenosha as a mission to local children. Since that time we have been very involved in the life of the Kenosha community.
For an overview of our beliefs and practices see the various Presbyterianism 101 documents on the PC(USA)'s Who We Are page.
